Today was all about one thing: covering 29 miles as quickly as possible because we had a party to make.
Our nephew Matt and his wife Melissa live in Pittsburgh, and we were determined to reach their house in time for our great-nephew’s birthday celebration.
So today became a different kind of challenge. Rural roads gradually gave way to suburbia as Rich and I powered up and down the hills, all the while keeping one eye on the clock.
But really, the ride was all about making it to the party. And we did.

Pedaling up to their house and being greeted by everyone felt like crossing a finish line of a different kind. After a quick shower, we were off to an afternoon of little-kid awesomeness—cake, energy, laughter, and the joy that only a seven-year-old’s birthday party can deliver.
After so many miles focused on the road, it was pretty special for the day’s destination to be family.

Awesome!
Matt, so true!! We were really happy to spend time with Matt, Melissa, and the kiddos!! And to have ridden our bikes to their house – crazy cool.
