Day 28: Jeffersonville, IN to Corydon, IN

Yesterday, Joanna and I had a rest day in Jeffersonville, Indiana, which is right across the Ohio River from Louisville, Kentucky. As life long baseball fans, we had to visit the Louisville Slugger factory and museum.

We took the factory tour and got to see how each bat is cut using an advanced CNC machine. They talked about the different types of wood that have been used over the years, how each player customizes the barrel size, the handle width, the slope angle and even the end knob to personal preferences.

Probably the coolest moment is when I got to hold an actual bat used by Babe Ruth.  The bat weighed over forty ounces and had an unusually large handle. It was very different than the Willy Mays bat I also got to hold. After the tour, Joanna and I got a chance to take some swings in the batting cage. I used a replica of current Yankee Cody Bellinger’s bat. Let’s just say it is a more effective tool in Cody’s hands. 

As we were checking out of the hotel this morning, we met Don and Donna. They were wishing us well when we head further west, as they know how mountainous it will get. They have a place in Missoula, Montana, and gave us their number to reach out to them when we pedal through their town. So nice!

We were scheduled to ride today 48 miles to Bradenburg, Kentucky. The forecast was for heavy rain all afternoon with possible thunderstorms. We decided to head out early and ride just 27 miles to Corydon, Indiana. The first ten miles were on the Ohio River Greenway with great views of the Louisville skyline. We then headed inland to ride some quiet roads through the suburbs of Louisville all the way to Corydon. We felt the first drops of rain as we pulled into our Airbnb a few blocks from downtown. Ten minutes later, it was pouring. We made the right call.
